YOUNG Darlington residents are being urged to vote on which issues are most important to them as part of a national youth parliament campaign.

Darlington’s member of youth parliament, Danny Brown, is spearheading a campaign to get young residents’ voices heard in a national vote to decide which issue the youth parliament will campaign on in the coming year.

Young people will be given the choice of ten pressing issues and asked to choose the one which they feel is most important to them.

The votes will then be added up, and Danny, along with the other members of youth parliament will decide which are the most important in a debate at the House of Commons.

This year the aim is to get one million young people to register their opinion on issues as diverse as euthanasia, youth sport funding and the living wage.

Danny said: “This consultation is a chance for young people to make it known what their priorities are, and to make sure the important issues are discussed in parliament.

“I hope that I can inspire other young people to take the chance to get involved.”

Councillor Cyndi Hughes, Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet member for children and young people, added: “This is a fantastic opportunity for young people to have their voice heard; it’s one I hope the young people of Darlington will seize!”

Voting is open to 11 to 18-year-olds who can find out more and take part by visiting mym.mi-vote.com
