PRIMARY school children discovered the flavours of India when took part in a cookery lesson with added spice.

Youngsters from Trimdon Village Community Infant School in County Durham learnt how to create authentic Indian dishes during a visit to Cinnamon Club Restaurant and Champagne Bar.

The restaurant opened in the village this summer and head chef Shayer Miah prides himself on cooking traditional Indian cuisine.

Today (Thursday, October 2), the enthusiastic children got the chance to make and taste everything from chicken pakora, to flavoursome bhajis.

Sabir Ahmed, owner of Cinnamon Club, said: “We want to ensure that the children understand that healthy, tasty Indian food has moved on from the way it used to be portrayed and ensure that it can be easily replicated at home.”

Julie Parnaby, deputy headteacher at Trimdon Village Infant School, said:

“It’s opportunities like this that allow our children to experience different cultures.”

Headteacher Mandy Fuller added: “The children had a wonderful time and tried so many different dishes.

“I intend to write to the owners to thank them for arranging such a wonderful and well-organised afternoon.”
