HUNDREDS of school pupils took part in South West Durham School’s Cross Country Championships at Barnard Castle School.

More than 200 athletes from ten schools across the district tackled the challenging course within the school grounds.

Winner of the Junior Boys’ race was Caleb Ellis, of Barnard Castle School, followed by Ryan Watson, from St John’s, and Reggie Langton, also of Barnard Castle School, who finished third.

Barnard Castle’s Stella Jones and India Pentland claimed first and second in the Junior Girls’ race while Sedgefield’s Lucy Walker came third.

The school also won the team race and team competition.

Teesdale’s Ben Lambert and Nick Hamilton took gold and silver in the Intermediate Boys’ race while Barnard Castle’s Josh Raw came third.

St John’s won the team competition, with Barnard Castle and Teesdale taking second and third place.

Wolsingham’s Lizzie Cramb won the Intermediate Girls’ race, while Sadie Abel of Sedgefield was second and Staindrop’s Lancia Lee-Deckard finished third.
