A MEMORIAL Christmas carol service is to be held to allow residents in Ferryhill to remember loved ones during the festive season.

The Co-operative Funneralcare has organised the event in St Luke’s Church from 7pm on Thursday, December 11.

The service will include Christmas readings, carols, candle lighting and the chance to place a memorial message at the Christmas tree in the church.

Christmas trees will also be placed in all of the Co-operative’s funeralcare homes, where tributes can be left throughout December.

Co-operative staff are also looking for donations for the Kisses for Christmas appeal.

Goods like food, tea, coffee, toiletries, new toys and bedding which will be useful for the homeless or those in poverty are being sought.

Items can be left at Co-operative funeral homes and they will be passed onto the Salvation Army for its appeal.

Details on the appeal can be obtained via 01740-651329.

The Co-operative Funneralcare also managed to raise £278.77 in County Durham for the Royal British Legion through its sale of hand-made poppies.
