A DARLINGTON care home has helped raise vital funds for a poorly child – by having a pyjama day.

When most people spend an entire day in their pyjamas they are typically being unproductive, but staff and residents of The Lawns Care Home have raised more than £75 by doing exactly that.

Staff members Robynne Monkman and Amanda Ray-Campbell came up with the idea for a pyjama day as a way of fundraising for six month old Lochlan Fillipe, who has SMA – Spinal Muscular Atrophy – which is a degenerating muscle wasting disease.

The care home was contacted by the Precious Kids Children’s Trust as part of a nationwide appeal to raise money for ill, disabled or underprivileged children on a case by case basis.

Jody Hall, who works at the home, said: “The residents were all for it. They thought it was really fab.”

In addition to the pyjama day, there was also a coffee morning and a raffle.

The charity is looking to raise £8,250 in total for Lochlan, who requires daily jacuzzi sessions and the use of a sensory room to help with his condition.
