A CLASSIC fairytale will receive a modern twist at one of the region’s pantomimes this Christmas.

Characters in Sedgefield Players’ production of Beauty and the Beast will deliver the occasional tweet alongside the usual jokes and one-liners audience know and love.

The pantomime was written by Players David and Tim Jasper, who have added a few modern references to their retelling of the much-loved children’s story.

These include a nod to social media websites, Facebook and Twitter.

A cast of more than 40 amateur actors, including performers as young as seven, will take to the stage during the production, which runs at the Parish Hall in Sedgefield, County Durham, from Saturday, December 27, to Tuesday, December 30.

Norma Neal, of Sedgefield Players, said: “Audiences can expect a lot of laughs and corny jokes, as well as fabulous costumes and fantastic song and dance routines.”

The 2pm matinees have already sold out, but seats are still available at the 7pm performances on Saturday, December 27, Monday, December 29, and Tuesday, December 30.

Tickets, priced at £6 for adults and £5 for concessions, can be bought at Tickety Boo in High Street, Sedgefield, online at Sedgefield players.co.uk or by calling 01740-621771.
