A POPULAR festive train ride came to a halt yesterday (Tuesday, December 16) when a performer collapsed, requiring urgent medical treatment.
Families on board the Polar Express experienced a delay when a dancing chef passed out during one of the hour-long trips.
The train made an emergency stop at Wolsingham, where an ambulance came to collect the actor and take her to hospital.
Ian Lamming, who was on the train at the time, said: “There was no complaining from anyone. We were all kept entertained with lots of singing and dancing and everybody seemed to be very understanding.”
A statement from Weardale Railway management said: “On Tuesday, December 16, during the 3.30pm Polar Express Weardale departure, a chef was taken ill on board the train.
“The crew and first aider on board were very concerned and called an ambulance for assistance. The train stopped at another Weardale owned station to let the medics on board.
“The ride was delayed for around 30 minutes and this had a knock on effect with the 5.30pm and 7.30 pm departures.
“All passengers got to ride the trains as planned and the members of staff have been praised for the way that they dealt with the issues.
“The Polar Express UK’s first responsibility is always to the health and safety of our passengers and crew and we responded appropriately.”
