ONE lucky shopper will win a 50-inch television in Darlington on Saturday as part of the festivities taking place in the Covered Market.

Over Christmas, shoppers have been able to claim a free ticket every time they buy something from the Covered Market, with prize draws taking place every Thursday.

All tickets have been entered into the grand prize draw to win the 50-inch television on Saturday (December 20).

The draw will be made at 3pm by Darlington’s Mayor Gerald Lee and Council leader Bill Dixon.

Councillor Nick Wallis, Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet member for leisure hailed the success of the town’s festive attractions.

He said: “The Christmas markets have been a resounding success this year, with many great activities taking place.

“I wish you the best of luck if you’re entered into the prize draw, and if you haven’t entered yet, you’ve still got time to make a purchase from the market hall.”

Other festive attractions taking place on Saturday include the Covered Market’s Santa’s grotto open from 10am to 4pm – with street entertainers Christmas Crackers handing out free passes in the town centre.

There will also be demonstrations taking place throughout the day, with newly-opened venue The Keys demonstrating their Christmas menu from 11.30am to noon.
