The Tees hosted three events last weekend with the best weight coming during the Yarm AL March Open 25.15.0.

The current trend at Yarm continues with quality perch deciding the prize winners and Jimmy Messor (Durham) landed specimens to 3.0.0 on his way to victory. Fishing peg 190 above the golfcourse groundbait feeder and worm down the middle delivered. Just missing out on the next peg Martin Hope (Ripon) returned 23.5.0 adopting identical tactics from Dave Harris (Yarm) 15.4.0.

Further upstream on the middle reaches at Over Dinsdale it was all change in the Darlington AC Trophy with chub and grayling the main feeders. Steve Wathey (Billingham) made it two successive wins on this venue this time recording a level 15.0.0. On Bolton Park run off peg 14 feeder tactics with cheese and bread accounted for four chub and two grayling to floatfished maggot. 2nd Andy Rowe (Darlington) drew in Beverley Wood opposite Sockburn and caught three chub and three grayling for 13.4.0.

Saturday’s LTAA March Open turned out to be a dace match but gale force winds meant many competitors had no alternative other than to fish the tip and subsequently lots of bites were missed.

Local Craig Stockton won a hard match requiring just 9.0.0 for top spot. Drawing peg 94 downstream of Ingleby Bridge mainly small dace responded to feeder and maggot supplemented by a few perch on the worm. Yarm veteran Mick Broadley on peg 48 in the deeps opted for the slider float feeding groundbait and maggot and collected all dace for 8.7.0.

Top catch on the Swale was in the Northallerton & DAC event at Scruton when Dave Robson (Selby) put 6 chub onto the scales for 21.8.0 all falling to feeder and bread off peg B1 at Tweddles. Simon Roberts (Middlesbrough) followed with 14.12.0 of chub fishing similar tactics off peg 33.

Ken Close (RSPS) won a low scoring DBT AA Despatch Cup on the upper Swale. Drawing peg 1 below Gibson’s stakes at Ellerton 2 chub fell to floatfished wasp grub adding 2 grayling on the maggot for 9.2.0 from Bobby Trees (Thornaby) 5.0.0.

Chub and barbel dominated the Bradford No1 AA Open on the Nidd at Cowthorpe. Howard Foster (Bradford) weighed in 27.1.0 off peg 16 the cabbage patch. Stickfloat and maggot down the middle brought 7 chub and a barbel and despite losing 2 more barbel finished comfortably ahead of Gavin Mitchell 21.2.0 & Bob Newby 19.9.0
