CREATIVE youngsters embraced an Easter theme for an art competition at their school.

Pupils at Stanhope Barrington CE Primary School, in Stanhope, Weardale, were invited to decorate a sweater or cake picture for the contest.

It was organised by Fondant & Apron Strings and Woollyback, a cake studio and a wool shop based at The Durham Dales Centre, in Stanhope.

Lee Majhen-Todd, of Fondant & Apron Strings, said: “We try to work closely with the community because it is amazing and this was a bit of fun for the children before Easter.

“It was really difficult to judge because there was a really high standard of work. The pupils all used their imagination and there were lots of lovely eggs, chicks and ribbons used.”

The overall winner was Robbie-Joe Hamilton.

Class winners were: Nursery - Mason Roddam and Xavier Gillow; Reception - Jasmine Kellett and Lily Hutchinson; Class 1 - Jessica Dixon and Holly Roper-Edwards; Class 2 - Bonnie Gillow and Leah Emerson; Class 3 - Robbie-Joe Hamilton and Jenny Nuttall.

The winning designs are on display in the shops.
