A SPORTS club for people of all ages was launched last week.
The West Auckland New Age Kurling Club held its first meeting at the Memorial Hall, in Darlington Road.
New Age Kurling is a form of the original curling game, but it can be played indoors on a smooth flat surface instead of ice.
Club treasurer Dave Williamson read about the sport and contacted Nigel Douthwaite, Wear Valley's sports club development officer, who gathered a group of interested local residents and set about raising funds.
Mr Douthwaite said: "Kurling is a relatively new sport and is gaining in popularity because it is suitable for people of all abilities.
"It also appeals to groups with small community venues where more traditional sports are unsuitable."
The club will meet weekly and the venue and equipment will be made available for other groups to hire.
For more details, contact Mr Douthwaite on 01388-765555.
