Singers Emily Devine and Sophie Daniels will be accompanied by pianist Leo Sanders for the Durham Young Musicians' concert, in the Durham Light Infantry Museum and Durham Art Gallery on Sunday, at 2pm.

Their programme will feature Pie Jesu, by Faure, and Henry Mancini's Moon River. Piano solos will include Prelude No 3 from Gershwin's Three Preludes and Mendelssohn's Rondo Capriccioso.

Tickets are £4, £3 concession, £2.25 for children and £2 for season ticket holders.

* An international pianist is to make his Durham debut.

Anthony Hewitt, who has been described as one of the leading pianists of his generation, will perform at Durham University's Music Department, in Palace Green, Durham City, at 7.30pm on Sunday.

He will perform works by Bach, Brahms, Liszt and Chopin.

* Two musicians are to launch a series of song-writing workshops.

Songs for South Hetton is a ten-week programme run by Stanley-based singer-songwriter Benny Graham.

He and fellow musician Jez Casey, from east Durham, will launch the programme with a free concert at the Robin Todd Centre, South Hetton, at 6.30pm today, where they will perform a selection of their songs and talk about how they were composed.

The song-writing sessions, starting on March 1, are free but must be booked in advance by visiting the Robin Todd Centre or contacting Colin Reay on 0191-526- 0520.
