A poor, poor performance saw the redoubtable (apparently it means formidable and resolute) Redmire United crash out of the Dales Cup away to Hawes United at the weekend.

The home team went one up after less than a minute. Some heavy drinking the night before by certain members of the defence was blamed in the post-match inquiry in the White Hart, in Hawes.

To be fair, we have never beaten Hawes' first team in the last fifteen years since Redmire reformed. Our heaviest defeat was a dispiriting 22-0 debacle in the bad old days when we often failed to muster a full complement of players. I played in goal for the first 16 goals, only being replaced when their goalkeeper got his second.

Anyway, we play the team with the best name in the North-East on Saturday, the Buck Inn Broncos, from Richmond. A tough game against a young team with far too much skill and energy for my liking.

After almost a week of suffering combined morning sickness and a cold, Sarah (I'm going to get a slap if I call her our lass' again) is feeling a little better today. We had a "I'm the only sicky in the village" moment this morning when her youngest complained of being poorly, even running to the bathroom clutching his mouth like his mum does. Apparently, it was just his fortnightly bid for a PSP day. If it was just me he had to convince he would have been successful.
