young people have been helping to create a garden for a church congregation.
The garden is being created in the grounds of the Dean Bank and Ferryhill Baptist Church.
The project has been made possible thanks to environmental charity Groundwork winning the Big Lottery's "People's Millions" public vote on GMTV last year.
As a result, young people aged 13 to 17 are working with the local Groundwork trust and residents to turn the grounds into a community space.
The church is on the main road that runs through the former coalfield settlement of Dean Bank.
Groundwork East Durham has been working with Sedgefield Borough and Durham County Council to improve the route.
The Baptist Church congregation asked for better access and improved grounds, which was made possible thanks to £35,000 from the Big Lottery.
