A 10-YEAR-OLD girl is recovering in hospital with a broken leg after she was struck by a car and thrown over its bonnet.
Police are hunting the driver of the car which was later found abandoned in a nearby street.
An 11-year-old girl was also injured in the hit-and-run incident shortly after 6pm yesterday.
The youngsters were crossing York Road near its junction Eastbourne Road, in Grove Hill, Middlesbrough when the incident happened.
As they walked across the road, a car struck one of the girls from behind and she was thrown across the bonnet.
The other girl was knocked to the near-side of the car and suffered cuts and bruises.
The driver of the Citroen Zara Picasso then fled the scene. The vehicle was later discovered abandoned in Roseberry Road, Longlands, Middlesbrough.
