Mosella Quaker anglers enjoyed a terrific week on the Stillwater scene.

Andy Nelson led the way winning the Oaks midweeker at Sessay. Staged on Cedar Lake, Andy hammered out a level 102.0.0. Drawing peg 62 a long pole approach at 14m to the island produced carp and F1s on the pellet to finish well ahead of local ace Chris Hall (Oaks) 84.15.0; Ant Stock (Daiwa Cleveland Angling Centre) 70.3.0.

Then on Sunday team-mate Tony Watson also broke the 100 pound barrier by just 7 ounces. The 40 competitors were split between Ash, Beech and Sycamore Lakes. Tony pegged on Beech 6 located carp galore with samples upto 4.0.0 working the pole down the side with maggot on the hook.

In 2nd place Andy Barker (Oaks) on the same lake peg 24 went for a 5m line on the pellet and caught a similar stamp of carp just falling short on 90.12.0 from J Clarke (Oaks) 86.2.0; C Hall (Oaks) 80.4.0.

Making up the trio of Mosella Quaker victories Darlington’s Brian Armstrong travelled to Woodland Lakes at Thirsk on Wednesday and although weights weren’t as high it was a very competitive match and Brian recorded 47.0.0. Sat on Partridge 17 long pole at 12m offering sweetcorn on the hook tempted quality carp - best going 10.0.0.

Thirsk rod Martin Wheeler (Woodland Tackle) was agonisingly one fish adrift at the scales with 42.14.0. Tacticswise a banded hard pellet approach on the pole at 14m located carp to 8.0.0 off Partridge 30.

Others: J Heron (Woodland Tackle) 39.4.0; B Robertson (Woodland Tackle) 39.1.0.

44 competitors fished Sunday’s Open at the Woodlands and despite gale force winds it was the best turnout of the week.

In atrocious conditions anglers relied on either the tip or the short pole close in. Winner on the day Chris Pentland (Woodland Tackle) started on the tip with bomb and pellet but the match was won when he switched to pole and pellet at 4m for the final 2 hours landing heavyweight carp to 11.0.0 for 76.0.0 from Skylark 14.

On the adjoining peg Mick Webb (Woodland Tackle) adopted similar tactics to the winner securing runner up spot with 67.14.0 of carp to 9.0.0.

Jim Hirst Memorial Series Moor Monkton Lakes:
