The glorious Easter weather resulted in bigger turnouts on the local stillwaters and bumper weights continue.

The Oaks complex at Sessay staged a teams of three event on Good Friday and it was an excellent turnout with 72 anglers spread over Ash, Beech, Sycamore, Cedar and Maple Lakes.

Dean Smith (York) one of the North-East’s top commercial anglers on the circuit topped the event bagging 146.6.0 for victory.

The Bait Tech sponsored star pulled out peg 3 on Sycamore and opted for pole and pellet and searched his peg throughout the match to keep in contact with a succession of F1s and carp up to 2.0.0.

Luke Hawksworth (Daiwa Cleveland Angling Centre) was on Beech Lake peg 2 and also fished a similar match returning 126.6.0. Others: J Roper (Ropers Caravan World) 122.3.0; C Hall (Oaks) 114.4.0; R Harbour (Oaks) 107.8.0; S Weston (Oaks) 102.6.0.

The team event was settled on section points and Mal Bailey, Steve Goddard and Terry Wilson all won their sections to make for a perfect score.

Over at Thirsk the Woodland Lakes produced the biggest winning weight locally when Peter Thompson (Woodland Tackle) beat the 50 strong entry hammering out 152.2.0.

Scene of the action was peg 2 on Partridge where Peter utilised the pole fishing up in the water with hard pellet and tempted quality carp, the best a super specimen of 16.0.0.

James Roper (Ropers Caravan World) slipped into runner up spot at the scales with 149.1.0. Drawn on Skylark 21 he swapped between the pole and bomb catching quality carp on pellet.

The opening fixture of the Whittle Dene reservoir series went to Barry Evans (Big Waters). Fishing peg 37 a small groundbait feeder approach with maggot on the hook accounted for roach totalling 5.4.0.

In 2nd spot Karl Robson (Mary’s Tackle) weighed in 4.11.0 as groundbait feeder once again worked a treat locating mainly roach plus a few skimmer bream from Nick Jose (Daiwa Cleveland Angling Centre) 4.6.0; T Marshall (Mary’s Tackle) 4.3.0.
