BRITAIN’s strongest man visited a gym in Spennymoor at the weekend to throw his weight behind a strong man competition.

Eddie Hall, who was recently ranked 4th strongest man in the world at the competition in Malaysia, said he was impressed with the calibre of training he had seen.

“I think this is a really nice gym, it’s very well equipped for strength training and I’m impressed with what I’ve seen so far.” He said

“The guys here today are training to qualify for England’s strongest man and I’m looking forward to seeing how they get on.”

More than a dozen men took part in the competition held at the JP Fitness Strength and Training Studio, the knock-out style competition saw them take part in a log press, dead lift, squats and barrel lifts with heavy weights until only four remained.

The men who qualified were Mick Brown, Gary Gardner, Paul Smith and Mick Steele.
