TEESDALE artists are being invited to put their work on display at Gainford’s 36th Art Exhibition.

The annual exhibition will be held in the village hall, on Friday and Saturday, May 15 and 16, and local artists and artists are encouraged to exhibit their recent work.

“The artwork can be in any medium; painting, drawing, textile, mosaic, collage,” said Patrick Langdon, one of the exhibition organisers.

“As we are now in the digital age, we would also consider showing electronically produced pieces, including creative photography. Last year was the first time we had any photography, I hope there is some more this year. And there is space for some sculpture too.”

Art work from the children at Gainford Primary School will also be on display.

Jean Savage, who exhibited a painting for the first time two years ago, said: “All the artists are amateurs, and if it wasn’t for the annual art exhibition, the paintings would never be seen in public.”

The exhibition is free but all proceeds from donations and the artists’ hanging fees will go to the village hall.

There will be a public preview with refreshments from 7pm until 9pm on Friday, May 15, and the exhibition will be open from 10am until 4pm on Saturday, May 16.

Entry forms for anyone wishing to put work into the exhibition are available in person from Patrick Langdon, 6 West View, Gainford.
