A SCHOOL football team has made its first trip overseas to line up against European opposition this week.

Young footballers from Bishop Barrington School, in Bishop Auckland, travelled to Spain yesterday (Wednesday, May 20) for a six day trip to Salou and Barcelona.

The year eight and nine teams will play a number of fixtures against Spanish opposition as well as visiting the Nou Camp Stadium, in Barcelona, and enjoying a theme park outing.

Michael Creegan, the school's football coordinator, said: "This trip is a fantastic opportunity for the students at Bishop Barrington to visit another country, play against Spanish opposition and experience being away from home with their friends.

"It will develop their football and sports knowledge, and gain a real sense of camaraderie which will help them in their future years at school."

For the school's first overseas football trip, tracksuits were provided by J and K Training Ltd which specialises in training courses for maths, English and ICT.

Managing director Ann Johnson said: "I am delighted to sponsor such a fantastic trip for the students at Bishop Barrington.

"The experiences gained will help them in the future".
