FOOTBALL legend Jackie Milburn and actress Jill Halfpenny will be added to Tyneside’s walk of fame this week (Monday, June 1).
The pair were chosen by the public to be added to the “NewcastleGateshead” Local Heroes Walk of Fame, on the Newcastle Quayside.
Jackie Milburn’s family will see a bronze plaque unveiled on Monday (June 1).
Also being added to the list are Gateshead’s Little Theatre founder Ruth Dodds, businessman and philanthropist Guy Readman and guitarist Mark Knopfler – meaning the author of the album Local Hero officially becomes one.
The Walk of Fame, unveiled by Sir Bobby Robson’s widow Elsie in 2014, already includes Sir Bobby, Alan Shearer, Sting, Ant and Dec, Brendan Foster, Robson Green, Lindisfarne and Cardinal Basil Hume, among others.
Knopfler, who will see his plaque installed later this year, said it was a wonderful honour which he would treasure, while Halfpenny described it as a wonderful and touching surprise.
Sarah Stewart, chief executive of the NewcastleGateshead Initiative, said: “NewcastleGateshead Local Heroes has been well received since it launched last year.
“I’m delighted to see the walk grow with an additional five heroes honoured.”
