SPORTS clubs will be green with envy when they see Bishop Auckland Table Tennis Club kitted out in new strips.

The club made a successful bid to Dale & Valley Homes’ Better Homes Better Lives community fund to fund new t-shirts for players in the club colour of green.

The fund was launched in 2009 to provide small grants to groups in the area to support communities and improve opportunities.

Club chairman Matt Porter said the tops are for members of the community who attend sessions along with club members, to offer a sense of team spirit, cohesion and belonging.

He said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for those who wish to support the club and attend sessions but are not able to commit to full membership.”

The club was set up in 2012 and is based at Bishop Barrington School, in Bishop Auckland, but also holds classes in Spennymoor, Wolsingham, Newton Aycliffe, Barnard Castle and Coxhoe.

Its activities include competitions and fitness sessions to charity events, afterschool clubs and sessions tailored for people with dementia or disabilities.
