FIREFIGHTERS are hold a family fun day at their station this weekend.

The free uniformed services’ family fun day will take place on Saturday (June 6) at Consett Community Fire Station, in Villa Real Road, Consett.

The event, which is designed to give residents the chance to meet fire crews and other uniformed services’ personnel, will run from 10am to 5pm and everyone is welcome.

Among the events planned are a number of fire service demonstrations and displays, including Scrappy the fire investigation dog, taking place at 12.15pm and 1.30pm.

There will also be a climbing wall, face painting, farm bus and a chance to meet police dogs Jet and Ben.

Body Blitz sessions will take place at 11.45am and 1.30pm and the Salvation Army band will perform at 11am and 3pm.

Lee Brown, County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service assistant district manager for Derwentside, said: “The family fun days at Consett Fire Station are always very popular and we hope that the uniform services one will be just as successful.

“We’ve planned a packed programme of events and we hope that people will come along and learn something about the work that we do as well as enjoy the activities taking place.”
