The North East woke to blustery weather with wind whipping up sandstorms on the region's beaches this morning (Saturday, March 23).
The Met Office has forecast a blustery and cold day with sunny spells and showers.
Some of the showers will be heavy with the risk of hail and thunder. A gusty northwesterly wind will make it feel cold, especially when compared to of late. Maximum temperature 8 °C.
Further showers are likely through this evening, though most will fade away overnight leaving clear spells. Winds also easing. Turning cold with a rural frost possible in places. Minimum temperature 2 °C.
Tomorrow (Sunday), there will be another chilly start though the day is looking mostly dry with some sunny spells.
Winds will slowly ease as the day progresses, so feeling a little warmer as a result. Maximum temperature 11 °C.
According to the Met Office the outlook for Monday to Wednesday is: Low pressure is likely to dominate through this period, bringing heavy showers and longer spells of rain throughout. Temperatures around average for the time of year.
