Eight County Durham residents have appeared in court charged with failing to respond to a community notice by council officials. 

The eight people who appeared in court were all accused of leaving waste in their garden and failing to clear it in the timeframe. 

Each person who appeared in court was fined at least £500, with some having to now pay £1100, due to ignoring the community notice they were initially given for the offences.

Here is who has appeared in court this week, along with the offence they were charged with and how much they must now pay: 

  • Rebecca Bage, of Beech Terrace, Eldon Lane, has been prosecuted for failing to comply with a Community Protection Order regarding waste in the yard. She now has a total of £626 to pay.
  • Maddison Leigh Clarke and Sian Louise Skillern, of Craddock Street, Spennymoor have been prosecuted and ordered to pay £1034.00 each after failing to comply with a Community Protection Order regarding an accumulation of waste in the rear of the properties.
  • Lisa Wilkie, of Fairways, Consett, has been prosecuted for failing to comply with a Community Protection Order regarding waste in the yard. She now has a total of £523.
  • Catherine Lathan, of Roperty Walk, has been prosecuted for failing to comply with a Community Protection Order regarding waste in the yard. She now has a total of £1147 to pay.
  • Lisa Ann Tate, of Kings Road, Wingate,  has been prosecuted for failing to comply with a Community Protection Order regarding waste in the yard. She now has a total of £1034 to pay.
  • Sarah Jayne Bates, of Park View, South Pelaw, has been prosecuted for failing to comply with a Community Protection Order regarding waste in the yard. She now has a total of £1147 to pay.
  • David Shevlin, of Park View, South Pelaw,  has been prosecuted for failing to comply with a Community Protection Order regarding waste in the yard. He now has a total of £1147 to pay.
