A brand-new home and giftware store specialising in bespoke, handmade items has opened up in the historic Durham Market Hall.

House of Eden, a permanent stall at unit Durham market, has just been opened.

Owner Louisa McLean aims to bring a "joyous blend of scents wellness and humour" through House of Eden's wares - which are a mix of home fragrances (including incense and smudge sticks), handmade upcycled clothing, and witty quote gift ideas.

House of Eden also provides customisable gifts, where customers can order bespoke notebooks, mugs, candles, tote bags, and clothing.

Louisa already has a bank of experience working as a market stall trader in Durham, having kept an outdoor stall at Durham's popular Saturday markets for over a year.

Speaking about her move inside the market hall, Louisa explains: "After trading on the Durham outdoor market for over a year and building up a loyal customer base, I decided that I wanted to create a permanent base in Durham, so when a stall became available inside the market hall, I seized the opportunity.

"Being inside has allowed me to extend my product offering, and I can now personalise items for people, sometimes even with same-day service, as I create my stock on the premises.

"Being surrounded by fellow traders who help and support each other has been like being welcomed into a little community, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for me."

In addition to her new bricks-and-mortar stall, Louisa and the House of Eden is also available online at www.thehouseofeden.co.uk and in various pop-up shops throughout the North East.

"We pride ourselves on being more than just a marketplace—we're a unique independent department store that caters to everything a customer could need.
