A new monthly farmers market will soon arrive in a County Durham town as the person running the event revealed the first details of the market.

Naomi Katze, who moved to Middleton-in-Teesdale in 2023, might not have lived there for too long - but has set out plans to bring a monthly food market to the area - and has already committed more than 40 traders to the event.

After initially noticing that there wasn't any form of market in Middleton-in-Teesdale, Naomi has now made her dream a reality of bringing a farmers market to the town.

Taking place from May this year, the debut event will be on Saturday, May 25, and will take place on the final Saturday of every month at the Mart Buildings on The Bank in Middleton-in-Teesdale.

From initially thinking about the idea of a market at the end of last year to this point, 40 traders have already registered their interest in attending the event, with Naomi expecting it to be a well-supported market.

And from local traders, the coordinator of the new market has said that traders will also come from Cumbria, North Yorkshire, Northumberland and County Durham to showcase their produce.

The event will be geared up towards food, the farm and the farmhouse kitchen, with stalls ranging from meat, cheese & milk to bread, fruit and veg, cakes and savoury bakes.

Naomi, who has run successful farmer market events in Lincolnshire, where she used to live, has set out what the markets are about - and about her hopes for the event.

She said: "I always wanted to make it a reality - and after moving to the area, we've made it happen after finding a venue.

"Locals that I have spoken to are excited about the events and looking forward to getting some good local produce.

"I'm hoping to keep it it going through the year - and it'll be nice for people to browse the impressive range of produce from the North East and North Yorkshire - and be able to have a coffee, have a chat and look round all of the stalls."

The markets will take place on the last Saturday of each month at Middleton Mart Buildings on The Bank in Middleton-in-Teesdale, DL12 0PG.
