Are you more of a chocolate or strawberry flavoured ice cream person? Maybe you tend to get just a classic vanilla with a flake stuck on top (and some sprinkles).
With that in mind, we asked Northern Echo readers on Facebook what they thought were the best places for an ice cream in the area – were you one of them?
Many places received multiple recommendations, so here's a breakdown of some of the top-rated as voted for by you.
Some of the best places for an ice cream in the North East
Pacttios
Location: 29 High Street, Redcar, TS10 3BZ
Not only was Pacttios one of the most suggested ice cream parlours to visit in the North East, but it was also praised for its lemon tops several times.
“Lemon tops are the best,” voiced one person.
You can’t beat a few scoops of smooth “creamy” ice cream topped with a tangy lemon sorbet after a portion of fish and chips on the sea front.
Archers Ice Cream Parlour
Location: New Moor Farm, Walworth Road, DL2 2UD
This family business located just outside of Darlington was also mentioned in a lot of comments.
Whether you fancy an ice cream sundae or you can’t stop thinking about a chocolate covered waffle cone, Archers Ice Cream Parlour is certainly one to check out, according to our readers.
Lickety Split
Location: 13 North Terrace, Seaham, SR7 7EU
When sharing where they think is the best place for an ice cream in the region, one local posted it “has to be anywhere near the seaside” and recommended Lickety Split.
Just some of the flavours on offer include clotted cream, hazelnut and honeycomb – if that’s not enough to tempt you, what about a sundae topped with fresh fruit?
Minchellas & Co
Location: Sea Road, South Shields, NE33 2LD
Minchellas & Co was also one of the best ice cream parlours recommended a handful of times by Northern Echo readers.
The team has been creating ice cream in their factory since 1942, according to their website.
In 2018, their pistachio flavour was voted “the best ice cream in the UK” at the ICA Nation Ice Cream Championship.
