A SCHOOL celebrating its centenary has received a message of congratulations from the Queen.
Cestria Primary School in Chesterle- Street marked 100 years this week and has been holding a series of events to celebrate. The school, which is next to Park View Community School in the centre of town, wrote to Buckingham Palace with news of its big day and got a reply from a Lady-in-Waiting.
She said the Queen was delighted to know that the school “maintains such an excellent standard of education as it continues its long tradition. The Queen hopes that both staff and pupils will enjoy this year of celebration, and sends her congratulations and good wishes to you all.”
Deputy head Sarah Barningham said the letter back from Buckingham Palace was “brilliant”.
This Thursday, weather permitting, pupils planned to wear period costume from the ten decades of the school’s existence and have an afternoon picnic at the town’s Riverside Park. Celebrations continue on July 15 and 16 when pupils will be stage the musical Oliver, called Oliver With A Twist, in the school hall for parents and relations.
