Offcuts prove very useful

A RECYCLING partnership is proving to be a win-win situation for both a charity and a college.

Chopsticks in Northallerton is a charity which provides meaningful work for adults with special needs who make firewood kindling to sell. Now it is using waste wood produced by students on Sheffield College’s range of carpentry, construction and furniture-making courses.

The tie-up diverts the offcuts away from skips and landfill and should save the college about £400 a year.

Chopsticks’ administrator, David Stockport, said: “We were delighted to be paired up with the college, which is one of many timber suppliers to whom we are extremely grateful.”

Anyone else able to provide suitable waste wood to the charity is asked to contact him on 01609-761661.
