A YOUTH music festival staged at a popular heritage site is set to quadruple in size following the success of last year’s event.
Promoters of Castle Calling 2010, held at Richmond Castle, in Richmond, have expanded ticket capacity for the August 20 event following approval from English Heritage.
The event had a capacity for 500 in 2009 as a test run to make sure the 11th century Norman castle could cope with the equipment and noise, but that will now rise to 2,500.
Despite the small number of tickets last year, music fans from Manchester, Liverpool and Cumbria attended the event.
Acts for this year have not been confirmed, but organisers hope to repeat the success of 2009 headliners The Holloways.
Castle Calling was the idea of Richmondshire Youth Council, which was set up to encourage young people to have more say in the running of their community.
Simon Fletcher, assistant director at Richmondshire District Council, which helps plan the event, said: “The prime motivation of the youth council is that there are enough things for young people to do in this area.
“We learned a lot from running the event last year and know now what we have to do to make this bigger event as much a success.”
