THE sponsors of an annual 10k road race will boast a record turnout this year, while youngsters are being encouraged to pull on their running shoes for a 3k route.
Fourteen staff from Sherwoods will join 1,200 runners taking part in the Darlington Sherwoods Chevrolet 10k.
It represents a record turnout from Sherwoods for the race they sponsor and which is now in its 23rd year.
Sherwoods managing director Alasdair MacConachie said: "I am delighted that so many of my staff have decided to take part in the 10k.
“Over the years, the 10k has grown into a premier event, attracting athletes and fun runners from around the country.
"I am delighted to be part of it, especially as charities I support – St Teresa's Hospice and the Friends of Darlington Memorial Hospital – receive donations to continue the excellent service they provide to the community."
This year's event takes place on Sunday, August 8, starting at 10.30am.
The entry limit is 1,200 but, unlike previous years, runners will be unable to enter on the day – last year more than half the runners signed up on the morning.
Meanwhile, young athletes, aged 11 to 16, are being invited to enter a 3k event, taking place before the 10k, at 9.45am.
It costs £4 to enter the 3k event, which includes a free T-shirt. Runners must register by August 4 – there will be no entries on the day.
