Family fun to mark Shildon centenary anniversary

A CENTENARY celebration is set to take place with a family fun day to mark the 100th anniversary of a market town’s park.
The Hackworth Park Centenary Celebrations, in Shildon, are to be run by Shildon Town Council later this month.
The town council has lined up a host of family fun events to mark the anniversary at the park based on Central Parade with free entry on Saturday, September 22.
The event runs between 10.30am and 4pm and the fun includes a climbing wall, Punch and Judy show, a history marquee, fun fair and falconry display.
The Lanchester Brass Band, Shildon Salvation Army Band and the Pantastic Steel Band will all be performing too.
Further details on the centenary event can be found via the town council on 01388-772563.

Too little too late, the Rec as it is known by locals, is a shabby reminder of what could have been.

Hundreds of thousands spent on the Rec and what do we have to show fo r it, a big fence around it. The non existent flowers beds, shrubs and furniture, such as the park benches all gone, what a shame, not a patch of what it was even 20 or 30 years ago.

The Centenary which could have be so special, is made up of the same rubbish as the Town Council arranged for years, with as much imagination as a brick in a bucket of cement.

What happened to the planned activities when the lottery gave all that money all those years ago, obviously having a Town Clerk from out of the town hasn't helped.
