TWO new schools have joined a gym as a community aims to improve its health.

The Trex Gym, in Tow Law, is already used by the town’s two schools, the Blessed John Duckett and Millennium Primary Schools, but now other hilltop villages are moving in. Youngsters from Peases West and Stanley Crook primary schools will now also spend an afternoon a week at the community gym.

Town councillor Ron Grogan said the aim has always been to get young people active and plans are afoot to introduce healthy eating experts at the schools.

He said: “I am delighted two more schools are using our gym because it will mean more young people are having some exercise.

“We want a generation that understands the importance of exercise and healthy eating, and we are looking at sending experts in to help the children.”

Mr Grogan said he also hopes Great Britain’s success at the Olympics will inspire more young people to get active and fit.
