Green revolution in Darlington schools
12:25pm Saturday 15th September 2012 in News
A GREEN scheme aimed at revolutionising the way schoolchildren engage with the environment has enjoyed a successful first year.
In the 12-months since the Co-operative’s Green Schools Revolution programme began, six Darlington schools joined 759 across the north who made a commitment to the scheme.
Across Darlington, project members have got involved in projects to help schools to reach their green potential – from tree planting and school trips to educational talks in Co-op stores and at schools.
Staindrop Primary School in Darlington has particularly embraced the scheme.
As well as creating vegetable plots and looking after chickens, staff introduced walk and cycle to school schemes and the latter proved so popular that funding is now being sought for a bigger bike shelter to cater for the growth in children cycling to school.
