SCHOOLBOY James McAllister did himself and his family proud by completing the 4km Junior Great North Run in just 22 minutes.
James, 10, of Darrowby Drive, Darlington, ran for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research in honour of his great aunt Elaine Wheeldon who suffered from leukaemia and had a bone marrow transplant in 1994.
Now aged 50, Mrs Wheeldon is a regular competitor in the Great North Run but decided to have a break this year so James took part instead.
Mum Rachel said the event was fantastic and was made even better by the family catching glimpses of Olympic heroes, including Mo Farah, who were in Newcastle for the North City Games.
“We had a really great day,” said Mrs McAllister.
“James is absolutely revved up and can’t wait to do it all again next year!”
So far the youngster has raised over £300 for the charity.
