Sick dog found walking streets of Darlington
12:22pm Monday 17th September 2012 in News
AN investigation is under way after a sick, stray dog was discovered in a distressed state in a North-East town.
RSPCA inspectors were alerted after the dog, an elderly male black Labrador cross, was found in Neasham Road, Darlington, at about noon on Saturday.
The dog had had its tale taped up to conceal bleeding and had a large tumour on its private parts.
It has been taken to Stanhope Park Veterinary Hospital, in Darlington, where it is being cared for.
RSPCA inspector Garry Palmer, who is appealing for witnesses, said it was not clear whether the dog’s illness could be operated on, due to the animal’s age.
He said: “A member of the public noticed the dog in the street, and went door-to-door asking residents if they knew anything.
“The dog’s tail had been taped up and it was bleeding.”
The dog also has cataracts in both its eyes.
Anyone with information is asked to call the RSPCA, on 0300-1234-999.
