A CHAMPIONSHIP goalkeeper is helping to launch a series of coaching courses aimed at helping primary school pupils make the transition to secondary education.
Middlesbrough goalkeeper Jason Steele is helping his friend, football coach Lewis Marr, to set up the Primary Football Academy to provide coaching sessions for four to 11-year-olds at Woodham Academy in Newton Aycliffe.
It will be run by Mr Marr’s company, Education Enterprise, and sessions will be delivered by qualified FA coaches. Dance classes are also available for youngsters who dislike football.
The emphasis will be on having fun while developing potential but it also aims to ease children’s fear about starting senior school by introducing them to Woodham.
“It’s great for all the primary school youngsters to be able to come to Woodham and check out the facilities,” said Mr Steele.
“When I was young there wasn’t much of a choice for young people in Newton Aycliffe, but I think Woodham is starting to attract a lot more kids through the Sports Academy.”
The Primary Football Academy runs on Tuesday evenings and the dance classes will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. All sessions are term time only and cost £3.50 or £3 when block booking.
For more information or to book a place at the football academy contact Josh Ridley on 07903 679740. For dance class information contact Hannah Wilkinson on 07951 821238.
