Bishop Auckland bench destroyed

A BENCH to commemorate the Queen's diamond jubilee and 2012 Olympics has been destroyed.
Councillors at Bishop Auckland Town Council heard on Tuesday night how vandals had set fire to the bench in the town’s Recreation Ground during the Summer holidays.
Mayor of Bishop Auckland, Councillor Charlie Kay, who unveiled the bench in June, vowed not to yet the yobs win.
“I am sure everyone is desperately disappointed,” he said. “But I am not going to let this moronic pond life spoil the memories of the torch relay and the Queen’s Jubilee.
“We will replace this bench and we won’t let them beat us.”
Councillor Barbara Laurie added: “What happened to the bench was horrible.”

How depressing. Another fine example of brainless morons destroying their own home towns. The type who claim to "represent" their area and yet take great pleasure in smashing it to pieces.

Hopefully the replacement will last, but I haven't got high hopes.
