A COW pie eating contest has raised £2,000 for charity.

Ten Northumbrian Water staff raced to see who could eat a ten-ounce beef burger quickest, cheered on by their workmates who paid to watch the spectacle.

The winner was payroll assistant Joshua Beswick, of Belmont, Durham, in a time of two minutes and seven seconds.

He said: “In the battle of man versus food, man won.”

The event, held on Friday, was part of Macmillan Cancer Support’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

It was organised by Northumbrian Water knowledge technician Ali Douglas, who survived breast cancer.
