Trail of destruction as lorry sheds load
3:55pm Wednesday 10th October 2012 in News
POLICE are trying to track down a large goods vehicle that left a trail of destruction in its wake on the Great North Road.
At least 13 other vehicles were damaged when they hit debris that had fallen from the lorry as it travelled north along the A1 at Londonderry, near Bedale.
Other lorries and a number of cars were among the vehicles damaged - and some of the damage was so severe that a number needed to be recovered.
The incident happened at about 7pm on Tuesday and the lorry that caused all the damage did not stop.
Traffic Constable Tony Leonard said: ”Thankfully, despite the large amount of damage that was caused to the vehicles, no-one was injured as a result of the incident.
“However, I do need to speak to the driver of the vehicle which shed the debris onto the road. I urge anyone who can help to identify them to come forward straight away.
“I am also appealing to the driver of the vehicle to contact the police as they may be unaware of the incident.”
Anyone who can assist is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option two and ask for Tony Leonard. Alternatively information can be emailed to tony.leonard@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk

Before anyone comes on let me remind them that the driver is responsible for the load he is carrying (not the loader).
This just proves that the drivers do not use their mirrors or he would have seen the debris.
How many times have we been cut up by wagon drivers indicating and pulling out without looking.
