Thief rams car to escape

A THIEF rammed another vehicle with his stolen truck when he was challenged by a member of the public.

The Ford Transit flat-bed tipper truck was stolen from Yew Tree Lane, Harrogate, at 12.35pm on Tuesday and the thief was later seen dumping rubbish on Green Lane.

When he was challenged by a member of the public he rammed into the side of their vehicle before driving off towards Pannal.

The stolen vehicle is red with the words Fountain Construction on it. The back of the truck was laden with gardening equipment.

The thief is described as white, aged around 30, quite tall with a slim build and mousey coloured hair.

Detective Constable Fionna McEwan said: “The thief who stole the truck showed a callous disregard for the welfare of the public-spirited man as he fled the scene where he was dumping rubbish.”
