Major upgrade to Spennymoor leisure centre

Spennymoor Area Action Partnership (AAP) has announced plans for a £40,000 revamp to the outside of Spennymoor Leisure Centre.
The project, which starts early next month, came about after centre users said they felt the outside of the building needed work.
Michael Wilkes, AAP co-ordinator for Spennymoor, said: “This centre sits at the heart of the town centre and is very well used.
“It’s fantastic that the partnership can work with the council and councillors to pool funds and resources for a scheme that will make a huge difference to leisure centre users and visitors to the town centre alike.”
Flower beds will be replanted and new grassed areas will be introduced, seating will be replaced and new paving will be laid.
A number of outdated sculptures in the centre grounds will also be removed.
Local Durham County councillors Barbara Graham, Kevin Thompson and Neil Foster have given funds to the help with the work from their neighbourhood budgets.
Funding has also come from the county council and from Spennymoor Leisure Centre too.
