A HEALTH worker is taking early retirement to work with an armed forces charity in Germany.
Kim Lambert, of Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, left her job as a health visitor at Crook Health Centre today (October 17) after 14 years.
She will now take up bank work with the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) in Hameln, Germany.
As a member of the Territorial Army, the 54-year-old spent time as a nurse in Kuwait in 2001 and her father and husband have also been in the army.
The mother-of-two said the army has always been part of her life and working with the charity in Germany is something she has always wanted to do.
“I am looking forward to going out there,” she said. “It will be a different challenge for me and as my son lives there, it means I will get to see my grandchildren more.
“I have had some good times here and the people around me are what make it so fun.”
