New sport arrives in Darlington

SPORT lovers in Darlington will have the chance to join a new sport designed for adults.

Rush Hockey is a flexible, five-a-side hockey game played at a fast and furious pace. Teams are mixed gender and open to adults aged 16 and over.

The sport has been added to a list supported by Darlington Borough Council with new weekly sessions at Eastbourne Sports Complex, between 8.30 and 9.30pm, starting on Wednesday (October 24).

The new course follows a number of successful taster sessions led by the council’s sports development team, who will run the sessions alongside the Darlington and Bishop Auckland Ladies Hockey clubs.

Each session costs £2 per session. All equipment is provided but it is advised to bring your own shin pads. There is no need to book, simply turn up to join in.

Coun Andy Scott, cabinet member for health and partnerships, said: “Rush Hockey offers an exciting opportunity to get out into the fresh air and try something new, whilst taking some physical exercise.”
