Shildon man found in possession of heroin

A SHILDON man who was caught with £25-worth of heroin has received a conditional discharge for six months.

Neil Anthony Bennett, of Cedar Grove, pleaded guilty to possessing a class A drug at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates Court today (Thursday, October 18).

When he committed the offence on Wednesday, Bennett breached a conditional discharge issued on September 13 for handling stolen goods.

Mitigating, Andrew Clinton said the 27-year-old had been complying with a drugs rehabilitation order and described the offence as a “blip.”

Chair Nigel Scott decided not to resentence Bennett for the original offence.

“The reason for the most exceptional of conditional discharges is the massive progress you have made," he said. "We don’t want to jeopardise that.”
