3:45pm Monday 12th November 2012 in News
ONE of the country’s few marching Scout marching bands led the parade as Chester-le-Street paid its annual tribute to the casualties of war.
The 2nd Chester-le-Street Scout Group Band headed the procession through the town’s streets with members of the British Legion yesterday (Sunday November 11).
Young people made up a large part of the event with groups including Army Cadets, Air Cadets, Sea Cadets, District Explorers and Girl Guides taking part.
The parade assembled at the Civic Centre and marched up Front Street to St Mary’s and St Cuthbert’s Church for the Remembrance Day Service.
Carole Atkinson, of the Scout Group, said: “The parade was well supported by well- wishers lining the route.
“The town of Chester- le- Street should be very proud of their young people as they made up the majority of the parade, all very well turned- out and all wore their respective uniforms with pride.
“Next year it would be nice to see more adults taking part from other organisations. All would be most welcome.”
