  • "The government and the candidates can blame the low turnout on whatever they like but I believe the main reason is that currently, politics and politicians turn people off. If this government really wanted to make a success of these elections it should have banned the canditates from any political affiliation. So instead of voting for a political party we could vote for the most able candidate, regardless of their personal politics. Just look what the people of Northumbria have done. Would Vera Baird have been voted into her new position without a red rosette? It is common knowledge to all those in the Teesside area that she is unfit for public office. Politics of the right, left and everything in between have no place in the running of our police forces and those that see their new positions as an avenue to promote their political agenda should think again."
