POLICE are urging residents to ensure their homes are secure following a burglary.

A house in Callington Close, in Bournmoor, near Chester-le-Street, was broken into between 11.30am and 8.15pm on Tuesday (November 27) while it was unoccupied and several items of sentimental value were stolen.

The burglar is believed to have got into the house after climbing onto a shed and into the back garden, then forced a window.
