CHRISTMAS came early for a group of pensioners who were treated to a seasonal lunch by Rotarians.

Chester-le-Street Rotary Club held the event for 22 old folk who may be on their own this Christmas at the town’s Parish Centre in Middle Chare today, Thursday, December 6.

“This is the first time we have held it. It might become an annual event,’’ said club secretary Kevin Jobson. “Our president Linda Watson proposed to the club that she would like to hold a Christmas lunch for the elderly and lonely of Chester-le-Street and today’s date was chosen.”

The event featured a sherry reception, two-course meal and entertainment. All the guests were invited by individual Rotarians and given transport to and from the hall.
